Step 3: Grinding

  • The cleaned and sorted plastic scrap is fed into a plastic grinding machine (also known as a granulator).

  • The machine breaks down large plastic pieces into small, uniform flakes or granules.

  • Grinding increases the surface area, making the plastic easier to melt and mold.

  • Uniform particle size ensures consistent heating and flow during extrusion and molding.

  • Screens or sieves in the grinder filter out oversized or undersized pieces, ensuring quality control.

  • Any metal or non-plastic contaminants are removed using magnets or separators before grinding.

  • Proper grinding improves the efficiency of the next steps in the recycling process.

  • The ground plastic is stored in bags or containers, ready for granule production.
